2015 Taste of Love Hosts A New Season for Epilepsy
Attendees at the 11th Annual Taste of Love Gala were able to escape this year’s dreary winter weather as the Ritz-Carlton- Buckhead’s ballroom, was transformed into “A New Season for Epilepsy”. A wide variety of beautiful spring floral arrangements decorated the tables of more than 600 supporters of the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia.
The evening got underway with a reception featuring the Mary Sue Taylor Quartet and a silent auction featuring jewelry, fine wines, art, sports collectibles, services, trips and unique experiences. Spirited bidding wars took place for a number of premier items.
The party then moved to the ballroom where guests were welcomed by Gala Chair and EFGA Board President Bonnie Leadbetter. As guests dined on a lovely meal and sampled fine wines from Total Wine and More, they were entertained by Alizma, a trio of violinists who happen to be identical triplets. Their repertoire included many contemporary as well as classic tunes.
The program then moved on to a more serious note as the featured speakers focused on the purpose of the evening, to raise funds to support the programs and services provided by EFGA. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a neurological surgeon and Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN introduced the inspirational speaker for the evening, Paige Figi. Paige is the mother of Charlotte Figi, a young girl profiled in Dr. Gupta’s documentary “Weed”. She shared Charlotte’s story and the journey from uncontrolled seizures to the hope for a brighter future brought about through the use of medical cannabis. Her presentation resulted in a standing ovation from the audience.
Next on the agenda was a live auction hosted by Darren Meares. Amongst the items included in the auction were all expense paid trip to Washington, DC ; a summer getaway to a cabin in Beaver Creek, Colorado; a Georgia Bulldog football package; a trip to San Francisco and the wine country of the Napa Valley, an adorable golden doodle puppy and a helicopter tour of Atlanta courtesy of the WSB Traffic Team. Following the auction, the audience was invited to contribute and receive one of the coved Taste of Love T-shirts. The evening closed with the always popular Taste of Love Lounge, where revelers could dance into the night (and early into the next morning!).
This year’s event generated more than $500,000 for our programs and services. We would like to salute the 2015 Gala Committee, consisting of Stephanie Boswell, Laura Buoch, Tracy Dean, Greg Embry, Rebecca King, Bonnie Leadbetter, Anita Patterson and Pat Terwilliger for all their hard work in making the Taste of Love such a great success.
Special thanks to all of our wonderful sponsors and table host. Without your support, this event would not be successful! Also we would like to extend our appreciation to UCB, The Epilepsy Company for serving as our Presenting Sponsor and for providing volunteer support to ensure the evening ran smoothly.View Photos from the 2015 Taste of Love Gala
