HB1 Passes The Committee!

Thursday was quite a day the the Capitol! We started with a wonderful, heartfelt press conference that rang through the halls of the Capitol. Representatives from most conditions listed in HB1 spoke to why this bill is so important. Rep. Micah Gravely, a proud supporter and co-signor of HB1, gave a powerful testimony to the importance of HB1 and thanked the supporters for the thousands of emails and phone calls to the Senate.

We attended the Senate Health & Human Services Committee meeting that lasted more than 5 hours. At the meeting the Senators heard personal testimonies, both for and against HB1, from patients, families, medical professionals and members of the community. Rep. Peake made some thoughtful amendments to the bill, as did the Senate. In the end the bill will move forward almost completely as it was presented. Regretfully fibromyalgia was a condition that the Senate chose to remove for the time being. All in all we are thrilled with yesterday’s outcome and hope that you will continue to contact your Senators and ask for their support of SB185/HB1 when it goes to the Senate floor next week.

Thank you all for taking the time to contact your Senators throughout this process! If you need help finding your Senator or a sample letter to send to ask for their continued support, click here.
