Summer Camp logo The sights and sounds of summer were experienced at Ft. Yargo State Park in Winder, as the Epilepsy Foundation's 2010 Summer Camp program sponsored three weeklong camp sessions. From splashing cool water in the pool on a hot Georgia summer day to the giggles of a cabin group preparing for talent night, the park was filled with the sounds of happy campers.

Campers had no shortage of fun activities to choose from: artistic types created masterpieces in the arts and crafts cabin, while others busted a move on the dance floor. Many preferred the challenge winning a ball game or catching the biggest fish. Most important , it was a time when participants learned they are not alone in having a seizure disorder. This created a heightened sense of independence and improved self esteem in each camper.

Camp Big Heart kicked off the summer camping season on June 13 with two weeks of fun for both children and adults. This camp was made possible though the hard work of the Civitan Clubs of Georgia and Camp Twin Lakes, with the financial support of the Georgia Affiliate of the Epilepsy Foundation. In late July, Carpe Diem (Latin for Seize the Day) held its' inaugural camp thanks to the efforts of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Camp Twin Lakes.

We want to thank the dozens of counselors and medical volunteers who donated their time to make life very special for these campers. We would also like to thank the following organizations whose financial support made it possible for 56 campers to attend camp on scholarship. The Georgia Affiliate has never turned a camper away due to financial need thanks to the loyal and on going support of these fine organizations:
